In October 2001, the Batsto Quilters participated in the Batsto Village Country Living Fair.  At the fair, the Batsto Quilters created a quilt that was raffled off to benefit the conservation of the Stewart Quilt.  One of the goals of the Batsto Quilters is to raise money to help preserve The Stewart Quilt.

Unfortunately, no pictures were taken at the Country Living Fair, but below are pictures of the Charity Quilt that was raffled and the Stewart Quilt. Click on the images for a larger version.

tn_Batsto2001QPicnic_incottage.jpg (5167 bytes) The Stewart Quilt, "Rising Sun" circa 1865, is preserved at historic Batsto Village.  This handcrafted quilt is believed to have been made at Batsto Village in the mid-19th century by Margaret Stewart.  Her husband, Robert, served as the business manager of Batsto for the Richards family and reportedly was the one who cut the fabric squares that were used in the creation of this quilt.  The quilt measures 93"W x 97"L.
It is believed to have been retrieved from the Stewart home during the fire of 1874, which destroyed much of of Batsto Village.
Safeguarded by the descendents for many years, the quilt was donated to Batsto Village in March 2000 by the late Margaret Glen Stewart Brodbeck of Pottstown, PA.
